Choice of Gary Woodland

Posted on

Gary Woodland grew up in Kansas, once dreamed to be a basketball superstar. Hesitating between golf and basketball, Gary Woodland finally got golf instead, and decided to leave the basketball team in West University that he had working for.

Woodland, a Topeka native, hits the ball harder and longer than just about anybody who plays the game of golf. There isn't a driving range in America that can hold him. A few years ago, word got around that Titleist had clocked Woodland's ball speed off the tee as faster than Woods'. All of a sudden, Woodland had this reputation as golf's Paul Bunyan.

But now, every day, Woodland works to change that perception. Today, as one of the favorites going into the opening round of the Big 12 tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., he and his coach have a goal: to convince everyone watching at Prairie Dunes Country Club that he has the best short game in collegiate golf.

"I have a huge advantage with my length," Woodland says, "but if you don't know how to use it, it's not going to get you anywhere."

More than an hour has passed at the Alvamar range, and Woodland still hasn't pulled out his driver.

He has sheathed Excalibur, and you wonder whether you should ask for your money back. But then Woodland says something surprising.

My coach in Kansas told me that it is brilliant for me to choose golf while there is no future in my life if I played basketball other than golf. And so did the words worked since he was standing on the stage ,holding ping g15 fairway one year later.

Gary Woodland said these words  on Sunday night after winning the championship, and this victory earned him a two-year PGA Tour card. What is funny is that U.S. college league basketball tournament had kicked off at the same time as Wood Rand win champion during the PGA Tour. Talking about the time Woodland played basketball in university, Woodland seems to be excited because it is pity that woodland didn't get a satisfied result then in that game."at the end of the match, I shot a three-pointer and only one time succeed within the 7 shots."said Woodland,"We were totally defeated by Kansas and we losing our feeling, even though I realized some difference and I changed my way, however, it didn't work anyway."

It is the first time Woodland attended Rand Arnold Palmer Invitational with taylormade burner 2.0 irons , and his triumph last week raised him to No.3 in FedEx Cup.
